Hi guys, I've been reading through some of GB Shaw's quotes and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the three quotes stated below are taken from? I know, aside from novels and plays, GB wrote a few essays, which I suspect they may belong to, but if anyone can identify the actual sources for me I'd be very grateful.

Quote:

'Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.'

Quote:

'Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it.'

Quote:

'The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.'

It must be some sort of periodical, probably out-of-print.

Yeah, from what I can find it seems to be a periodical GBS wrote criticisms for over about 15 years, but I don't think any articles have survived onto the net.

If it's any interest to anyone else, I think I've discovered the source of one of the quotes:

Quote:

The fact that a believer is happier than a sceptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality.

It's taken from Androcles and the Lion, Preface (1916)
