Hello. Does anyone have any specific information regarding the use of quotes from anything as far back as the bible to someone famous today. Thoreau or Oprah? Proverbs or unknown authors? Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I went to that spot just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I see what you are talking about but I don't think I explained my question completely. I'm looking to find out more information about copyrights and quotes because I'm working on developing a card/photography business using quotations and I have not been able to figure out what the actual laws are. They are very confusing. I've put an email in the copyright.gov site. THanks again for trying to help out. It is very much appreciated.

Did you ever receive or find any definitive answer? I am considering a commercial venture that would utilize quotes as well. We should talk.
On my first attempt to post I included my email address, but forum would not allow. ("for first 10 days of membership"??)

Hello Randy,
No I have not really received any further definate information. It is a very gray area, thats the problem.
I just want to know the black and white of the law about it so that I don't do something wrong.
From what I understand... you can use a quote from someone if they have been dead for over 70 years (if I remember it correctly). That is the biggest thing I've heard over and over again. I have tried to find books about it and haven't had luck. Let me know if you have more success than i've had.
