Hi all

I need the exact reference for "I know therefore I am". It was in Descartes Discourse on Method but may also have been in Cottingham's book The Cambridge Companion to Descartes 1992. I need anorigial reference for a paper please. Anyone?

Je pense, donc je suis (I think, therefore I am )~Rene Descartes from Le Discourse de la Methode, part 4 (1637). Since Latin was the language of the day, the form, "Cogito, ergo sum" appears in the Latin edition (1641) and became more famous.

Sorry, by reference I meant page number and details of the Descarte book which is often quoted withoout the page number - I am submitting a paper and cannot find the details.

It really wasn't much of a "book" and hardly more than a pamphlet. It had six parts and is not very long, so you might not see any further notation as to specifics such as a page number that may not have existed.
