Phaedrus and thenostromo may find the original if there is one, but I remember this as a big '70s slogan -- t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs. I always liked the cynical variation: "If you love something, set it free. If it doesn't come back, hunt it down and kill it."
I know, I know -- it isn't noble or true, but it is funny.
