Does anyone know where this quote originally came from? Thanks

"This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognised by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."
George Bernard Shaw

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for it's own sake. Life is no "brief candle" to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it over to future generations".

Muchas Danke.
And may I ask how you so quickly uncovered this, or did you know it? I tried searching but could only find the quote, never the source.

Using http://www.google.com search engine, which even Yahoo! says is the best Internet search engine, I searched for the exact phrase:
will not devote itself to making you happy
I looked at every hit until I found the paper that noted the source "Man and Superman."
Then I started over and added the word "superman" to the search, and as I recall, I got over 60 some odd hits that all mentioned the source.
In my reply I included links to those hits that seemed most reliable.
Oh, and welcome to the Quotations Page forums.
