there is a classic quote about - in a journey its not the destination but what happens along the way...does that sound familiar to anyone?

Life is more than a destination; life is the journey on the road, whether it is rough or smooth. It's the journey that makes life worth living!
~from a sermon (slightly edited) by Pastor Grant Lynn Ford
http://www.sunshinecathedral.org/sermons/03_11_01.htm

Life is a journey, not a destination -we determine our destiny by the direction we take
~unattributed

I WILL REMEMBER always that marriage, like life, is a journey not a destination and that its treasures are found not just at the end but all along the way.
~unattributed

Gentle Words of Encouragement
Spend every day preparing for the next.
As you reach forward with one hand,
Accept the advice of those who have gone before you,
And in the same manner reach back with the other hand
To those who follow you;
For life is a fragile chain of experiences held together by love.
Take pride in being a strong link in that chain.
Discipline yourself, but do not be harsh.
The pleasures of life are yours to be taken.
Share them with others,
But always remember that you too
Have earned that right to partake.
Know those who love you;
Love is the finest of all gifts
And is received only to be given.
Embrace those who truly love you;
For they are few in a lifetime.
Then return that love tenfold,
Radiating it from your heart
to fill their lives as sunlight warms the earth.
Love is a journey, not a destination;
Travel its path daily.
Do this and your troubles will be
As fleeting as footprints in the sand.
When loneliness is your companion
And all about you seem to be gone,
Pause and listen,
For the sound of loneliness is silence,
And in silence we hear best.
Listen well and your moments of silence
Will always be broken by the
Gentle words of encouragement
Spoken by those of us who love you.

This next poem has nothing to do with the request, but I just thought I'd throw it in....

THAT GENTLE TEAR
I saw the look
Of the little girl
Whose hands shook
As if she were holding a pearl.
I saw her on the back
Of that Arabian mare
Sitting tall and proud
The wind blowing her hair.
I saw the gleam
In her eyes
I heard her laugh,
And not cry.
This little girl
was born into strife,
Looked up then
And saw a new life.
She saw a future
That was bright and clear,
That's when I saw
That gentle tear.
A tear of happiness
A tear of love
A tear of hope,
And a horse named Dove.
I remember
When she got off
The words she said
Sweet and soft
"Thank you Dove
You're my best friend.
I will love you
Forever and again"

This poem was written about a wonderful horse, which has helped many kids in their times of need.

The renditions I've heard of it, are these:

"Happiness is a journey, not a destination"

"Life is a journey, its not the destination thats important, but what happens along the way"

"Beginnings are usually scary. Endings are usually sad, but its whats int he middle that counts. So, when you find yourself at a beginning, just give hope a chance to float up. And it will." ~Hope Floats

That help any? Actually, there is a quote that is even more similiar to the one you suggested, but I have not been able to find it tonight! Sorri!
