Hello,
I am reading "Parrot and Olivier in America" by Peter Carey. He quotes: "Through melancholy, to melancholy," as the poet said. Don't you happen to know which poet said that and/or in which poem/book?
My guess is Carey is referring to John Keats' Ode On Melancholy (1819) although that line in Carey's book is not in the poem.

I have checked some other poems on melancholy but none contain the line he states.
