Can anyone tell me the context in which these quotes were made?

The first one says that in this world don't matter what you do and how you try there is always someone better or worst at that than you but inspite of all these things what is important is that you've done your best. The second says that you must be a person of your word and any change and opinion that you have towards anything in this world should always begin with you first!
