In a collection of essays about Henry County, Kentucky writer Wendell Berry and his literary work the following sentence appears, "Emerson wrote that a man standing in his own field is unable to see." Where does that Emerson quote come from?

I culdn't zero in on that Emerson quote, perhaps it's worded differently in his works. However, I found this to be interesting. Did Emerson read Schopenhauer?
