Is it love vs fear or love vs respect? Sounds like a reference to the book by Shelti Feldhaun, "What Men Always Wanted to Know About Women" (or her other book with reverse title). In it she asked a group of people if they were forced to choose only one would they choose to be loved or choose to be respected. Almost unanimously the men chose being respected over loved (if necessary to choose) and women chose being loved over respected.
Sounds like a huge traditionalist stereotype - but try it at a group event and you might be surprised at the male/female split on answers, plus the interesting and vigorous debate.
Can't remember if she designed the question based on an existing quote, I hadn't thought so.
