Just wanted to point out that, while
R. A. Butler did indeed write a book entitled
The Art of the Possible, he wasn't the first to refer to politics in this way.
It was Otto von Bismarck (1815–1898) who originally stated that "
Politik ist die Kunst des Möglichen";
Bartleby gives 1867 as the year.
Butler, also a notable statesman, is famous for several sayings; and indeed
other sites do not refer to his book.
