Ok here goes, as I browse through the forums I have seen ranks below the screen names of various members. i e, Phantom_Delta, Quote Master. What ae the rankings and what are they all about? Do they mean anything, or are they just there?

Heh.
Actually it's a simple measure of the number of posts a user has made - "QuoteMaster" means 80 or more posts.
I also have an informal policy: for anyone who reaches 200 posts, I'll change your title to whatever you wish.
The little stars below "member" also increase as you have more posts, I believe they appear aqt 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 posts.

I've made more than 80 posts! Egad. If my boss gets wise to your system, my goose is cooked!
(Of course, I could protest that what I do on the Quotations Page makes me a better writer. And, you know, I believe it actually does.)

I remember de Vipont real well. He was as regular as a Timex for about two weeks and then he flew the coupe. It may have been the remarks about the battle of New Orleans. He thought we were stuck in some sort of time warp around the year of 1968. Voyager hasn't been MIA too long.

If you are AWOL too long from work you could be MIA when they really need you. So in order to avoid confusion you should call your boss ASAP or you could be DOA.

Okay, PD, you're right -- I flew the "coupe" (coop?). Actually, when I got back home after a four-month assignment out West, things had gotten so busy on this forum, I couldn't keep up!
Love the new lit page, mgm. I'm in awe of your industry and devotion in creating excellent non-profit Web sites.

Thanks Luna! and welcome back.
BTW, they're not non-profit - at least not legally. In fact they're my primary source of income right now, but if I subtracted the expenses and a reasonable salary for myself from their revenue they could certainly qualify as non-profit.
(If the online ad industry gets any worse, I might apply for legal non-profit status, but I'd much rather I made a huge profit...)

Dummy me, I've bought books from the advertisements on this site before -- among them What the Dormouse Said (a real favorite) and the second Curmudgeon book. I guess in the current economic climate I think of anything non-corporate as non-profit. Small businesses is really struggling.
I notice you've never restored the PayPal donation link that you took off after 9/11. I'd like to contribute a small sum -- I know donations don't make much of a dent, but every little bit helps, right? It's just such a fine site, a really special gem in the online world.

I haven't put the donation system back up because I was planning to implement a membership option instead - you'll be able to sign up as a member for a small fee and get access to some additional features and an option to turn off most of the ads. This will be done in the next month or so, as soon as I figure out what the additional features are.

I know I'm a little late but uh the cash irrr...ah.. runnin' low mgm so don't make the price too high. One of the only reasons I joined this site is 'cause it's free but if you jack membership prices I might just have to go on and find me a new site-only problem is I couldn't replace all of you guys. I guess what I'm sayin' is I Love you guys and I couldn't live with out y'all so uh don't go and make me leave you guys. aw man now you're makin' me go on and cry now. Just kidding .... I mean I still appreciate you all and if you put a price on membership I'm sure I could scrounge up some change to stay here.
