The
Quotes by Author section now includes brief biographical information about many authors. See the top of each author page and click on the link for more details.
We obtained most of the biographies from a public-domain biographical dictionary listing. They were assigned to our database using a semi-automated process that involved me staring at a screen and clicking things for about 40 hours. Please let me know if you spot any errors or inconsistencies.
We have biographies, at least a few words, for over 1000 of the authors (nearly half!). We'll be adding more as time goes on, except for those people who seem not to exist (Ellen Parr, Carl Zwanzig, etc.)
Also, some improvements to the Authors page. The
main Author Index displays a list of featured authors. All pages of the index include a search box. If you search for something with a single result - "Ovid" or "Shakespeare" - you'll be taken directly to that author's page. If your search is more vague, a list of possible matches will be displayed.
Also, in the process of adding biographies, I corrected lots of minor errors. In particular, many authors were listed twice or even three times (i.e. W. R. Inge, William R. Inge, William Ralph Inge). Those cases have all been combined and some misspelled authors have been corrected.
